Warner Bros. Pictures funded the Harry Potter films and helped create one of the most successful film series of all time. Now they have announced a major new partnership with Potter creator J.K. Rowling, including Rowling’s first foray into screenwriting with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film will focus on the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander’.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world” said J.K. Rowling in a statement on the new venture.
This film, based on the title of one of the books Hogwarts students read during their studies at the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, will be the first of a new series of features.
Rowling’s partnership with Warner Bros also includes linking up with the BBC to distribute their TV adaptation of The Casual Vacancy worldwide (excluding the UK).
Other areas of the partnership include development of attractions at Universal Orlando Florida (soon to include California and Japan) and interactive video games and link-ups with the website, Pottermore.
