Florence + The Machine have been confirmed as the replacement headline act for the Friday slot at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
The announcement followed soon after original headliners, Foo Fighters, had to pull out from the festival due to the extent of injuries sustained by their frontman, Dave Grohl. Grohl broke his leg after jumping off stage at a gig in Sweden earlier this week. The band have also had to cancel their upcoming dates at Wembley.
However, the festival’s chief organiser, Emily Eavis, was optimistic about Florence Welch and co taking over the Pyramid Stage:
“Once we heard that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here, she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
The band’s latest album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, entered the charts at the coveted number one spot both at home and in the US.
The festival, which runs from 24th-28th June, will also see controversial rap artist, Kanye West headline on the 27th. The event will close on the 28th, with a set from The Who. Revised timings for acts on the 26th are set to be announced soon.
