Disney have released the first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s big-screen adaptation of The BFG.

Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book of the same name, the film stars Mark Rylance as the Big Friendly Giant who one night, befriends an inquisitive little orphaned girl named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill).

The trailer is narrated by Sophie, as she recalls how she first encountered the BFG at “the witching hour… when people go missing.” As the startled young girl dares to look outside her window, we also get a teasing glimpse of the BFG and his shadowy silhouette, as well as the promise of other less friendly giants.

Dahl’s novel was last adapted in 1989, when Cosgrove Hall made an animated feature, which saw David Jason voice the BFG. This latest cinematic rendition of the story stars the likes of Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall.

The BFG is set to be released in UK cinemas on 22nd July 2016. Watch the trailer below.
