The Emmy award-winning stand-up comedian and creator of one of television’s most influential comedies, The Larry Sanders Show, Garry Shandling, has died today (24th March) in Los Angeles.
Shandling was transported to a local hospital due to a medical emergency where he later passed, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.
Shandling had an undeniable legacy over the comedic realm, especially in television. He became well-known through his stand-up, with his hilarious confessional and sometimes neurotic performances. He created the Emmy-nominated show It’s Garry Shandling’s Show (1986-1990) with Alan Zwiebel, which acted as a foundation for his legendary HBO show The Larry Sanders Show.
The Larry Sanders Show gave an inside look into the absurdity of Hollywood through the life of late-night host Larry Sanders, played by Shandling. The show’s legacy can still be seen in other shows today, such as Parks and Recreation and The Office (UK & US).
Shandling has also starred in a host of other television and film roles, including: The X-Files, Zoolander, Trust the Man, Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
