“And it’s goodnight from him.” The beloved British entertainer, Ronnie Corbett, has sadly died at the age of 85.
The legendary comedian, who was best known for his partnership with Ronnie Barker in The Two Ronnies, died earlier this morning (31st March).
In a statement, his publicist said: “Ronnie Corbett CBE, one of the nation’s best-loved entertainers, passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family. They have asked that their privacy is respected at this very sad time.”
As the diminutive half of The Two Ronnies, Corbett proved himself to be a versatile comedian; capable of bringing in laughs from the comfort of his own infamous armchair, as well as in the many crudely cerebral sketches that the pair were so lovingly renowned for.
Before The Two Ronnies (which lasted from 1971-1987), Corbett found prominence on The Frost Report, in which he worked with the likes of Barker, John Cleese, Eric Idle and Barry Cryer. Throughout the decades since then, Corbett has remained a steadfast comic presence, appearing in several Comic Relief sketches and on shows like Extras.
