Damien Chazelle’s Hollywood musical La La Land has set a high precedent for itself this award season, sweeping wins in all 7 of the categories for which it was nominated at the Golden Globes.
The film took home awards for Best Film- Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score, Best Song as well as acting recognition for both leads, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. In doing so, it has broken the record for the most Golden Globe awards won by a film.
The Golden Globes ceremony, which took place last night, is seen as the first important event of the Awards season, with its winners often going on to do well at the BAFTAs and Academy Awards. Other films that gained nods included Moonlight, as Best Drama, and the film is expected to do highly well in the upcoming Oscars.
Over on the television side of things, things were looking good for British television. BBC’s The Night Manager, an adaptation of the John Le Carre novel, saw itself taking home three prizes for its acting efforts from Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman. As well as this, Netflix’s The Crown, another British production, saw itself taking home the coveted prize of Best Television Drama, beating out the likes of Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.
One thing is for certain, it has certainly started what is looking to be an exciting and eventful awards season, especially for anyone involved with the making of La La Land.
