New wave band Duran Duran are back with ‘Pressure Off’, the first single from their fourteenth studio album Paper Gods.
The track is a collaborative effort, with vocals from American singer-songwriter Janelle Monae and production by Chic frontman Nile Rodgers, and Mark Ronson.
The guitar riff that can be heard throughout the track has a disco feel to it. It sounds like it was taken straight from a Chic track and has very clearly been influenced by Rodgers. Monae provides backing vocals for most of the track, taking the lead for the link between a bridge and the last chorus, which is a shame given her level of talent; the track could have offered more opportunities for her to showcase her vocal skills and use the collaboration on the track to her advantage.
The lyrics and disco style guitar riff all combine to create a catchy, upbeat track with a memorable chorus that is likely to be popular across the summer – promising good signs for the band’s upcoming album, released on 11th September.
‘Pressure Off’ is out now via Warner Bros Records.
