Mesmerising

'Figure 8' pushes musical boundaries even more than twigs' previous efforts, with the track's darkness provoking gentle vocal intricacies and epic electronic beats.

FKA twigs has revealed the sound to a track that is taken from her upcoming EP, Melissa, which will follow her extremely critically-acclaimed debut LP.

‘Figure 8′ is nothing less than an epically produced, layered avant-garde song. It is encompassing, strange and intriguing with electronic intricacies that construct a very deep track. It showcases the delicacy of twigs’ impressive vocal range whilst synchronously offering loud, banging electronic sounds.

The song is a postmodern explosion and inherently huge. Tracks such as ‘Two Weeks’ and ‘Pendulum’ in twigs’ debut were impeccably captivating, but ‘Figure 8’ pushes the boundaries even further, and its mesmerising, quirky nature aligns itself with ‘Preface’ from LP1, a track less than two minutes long that abandoned any musical convention.

‘Figure 8′ is one of twigs’ most game-changing pieces of work, blending R&B, electronic and subtle hints of house. Based on the premise of meditation and being calming, ‘Figure 8’ is dark and offers both vocal complexities as well as seductive electronic beats.

Melissa will be released this August via Young Turks.
