Formed in 2008, Dog Is Dead haven’t had an easy time trying to break into the music industry. However, they have achieved a lot in the last 5 years as they have self-released their Your Childhood EP, performed at numerous festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitiude, Isle of Wight and Reading and Leeds, and supported OK Go, Bombay Bicycle Club and One Night Only. In 2011 they also performed as themselves in series 5 of E4 teen-drama, Skins. Their debut single ‘Glockenspiel Song’ was released in June 2010, but a re-recording of this track is being released later this month.
The five-piece band from Nottingham can be categorised as being an indie pop band, but hints of jazz and disco can be heard in their music thanks to their bass player and saxophonist, Trev. You might recognise their sound as their last single ‘Two Devils’ was featured in Holiday Inn’s ad campaign in the Spring. Watching the band perform is an exciting experience as their huge anthemic pop songs capture everyones attention, and as a result their time has come to emerge as one of the most exciting indie bands of 2012.
The video for ‘Glockenspiel Song’ shows the band take a car for a joyride before ending up in a car park and playing a gig. Loads of teenagers surround them, jumping around and dancing, and join in with the song’s chant “We are a mess, we are failures, and we love it”. It’s nothing less than you would expect for an indie track which has the potential to be one of the summer’s big anthems.
The band will be playing several festivals throughout the summer including Pukkelpop and Reading and Leeds. Dog Is Dead will release their debut album All Our Favourite Stories in the autumn, and their new single ‘Glockenspiel Song’ will be available to download from July 22nd.
