The 1975 have seemingly answered to the recent speculation that they are to split, by teasing what is believed to be the artwork for their second album.
The cryptic comic strip Matt Healy posted to his Twitter account
Over the weekend, frontman Matt Healy posted a cryptic comic strip on Twitter that seemed to suggest what could have been a number things:
- The band were splitting up
- The band were going on hiatus, or
- The band were returning under a different guise
The cartoon appeared to depict ‘old Matty’ silencing a character dubbed ‘Pink (new Matty)’ alongside an enigmatic statement. The band then deleted their social media accounts, which only heightened speculation.
However, they have now re-emerged and posted what is assumed to be a new album cover. The cover features a newly designed pink neon installation of their logo. Healy has also posted a plain pink image to his Twitter – similar to the blue that Tidal representative artists posted to social media earlier this year.
Healy previously hinted at the band’s second album by posting a blurred photo on Instagram of an iTunes playlist called ‘The 1975-2’, with the caption, ‘2’. He later clarified that although the band’s second LP will not be named ‘2’, it will be released next year.
The comic strip and disappearance from social media has since been identified as a publicity stunt, but it is one that has certainly caught the attention of the band’s fans.
