The first time I heard Haim on Dianna Agron’s tumblr, all I could think of was ‘how come I’ve never heard of this band before?’ Described as “folk-meets-90’s R&B”, the sister act opened for Mumford and Sons not too long ago and recently had their latest single ‘Don’t Save Me’ premiered on BBC Radio 1.
From LA, the group comprises of Este (vocals, bass), Danielle (vocals, lead guitar), Alana (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards) as well as non-Haim Dash Hutton (drums). While it feels as though Haim is relatively new to the scene, the sisters grew up surrounded by musical influence, having played classic rock song covers with their parents under the family band name Rockinhaim.
“Don’t save me if your love isn’t strong”, the lyrics are catchy and the song really hits you with its vocals and melodic instrumental arrangements. There’s a retro vibe towards it but it’s fresh with a touch of technopop that isn’t overwhelming. If this is any kind of indication of their debut album to come, things look pretty promising. It probably also helps that they seem so effortlessly cool.
The track will be released on 3rd December on the Don’t Save Me EP. Their current UK tour kicked off in Glasgow on November 11th and will end on the 18th in Brighton, might just be worth the trip!
