You’d think it’d be hard for Swift to release a track that was more catchy and upbeat than ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together’; but she’s done it in the form of her upcoming single ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’.
‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is the closest thing that you could get to Taylor Swift meets dubstep, a combination that really shouldn’t work; but it does. It starts of as a more ‘clubby’ and pop orientated track, something which isn’t worlds away from Taylor’s usual country/pop blend, and then the chorus kicks in, and then there’s the drop! It’s a mix of things that really shouldn’t go, but she’s made it work for her. The lyrics are Taylor’s trademark ex-boyfriend hating (‘a new notch in your belt, is all I’ll ever be’) which’ll keep her older fans happy, but the incorporation of new musical ideas is something that’ll win Taylor an army of new fans. I’ve no doubt this’ll do well.
