Almost Classic

A nice return to what they're best at: anthemic rock storytelling with catchy choruses.

“She’s a little burner / Gonna throw you to the flame / Little ticking time bomb / Gonna blow us all away.” Given that the Followill family has been at this for 13 years, perhaps this anthem about a strong woman is their way of saying they’re not going to apologise for making the songs that they want to make. The idea of just doing what you want, wasting moments, and not asking for forgiveness is very, very cool. So too is the production, but you’d never expect anything less from Markus Dravs, of course.

Like a few other recent releases in the rock and indie spheres, ‘Waste A Moment’ serves brimfuls of serene festival summers and practically begs you to drive to it. Very U2, very 80s arena rock, very, well, classic Kings Of Leon, ‘Waste A Moment’ is pretty straightforward. Its chorus is catchy and memorable, as Caleb Followill croons, “Take the time to waste a moment.” Upbeat and strongly rhythmic, it will certainly waste a few moments over the autumn and beyond.
