Adele mixes things up with parts reminiscent of her debut's tones and some an entirely new form of breakup vibe.

Adele’s new track features guitar and bass in a funky way right from the offset, and it is instantly something different to what we have seen from record-smashing album 25 so far. ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’ continues at this level, with the vocals and lyrics nothing different from the usual Adele fare, but when the chorus hits the song gets interesting.
When I first heard this on the radio, it didn’t initially click that it was an original Adele song. Obviously her voice is very distinctive, yet it sounded like a rare feature appearance on someone else’s song. When I discovered that it was just Adele, it was a welcome surprise. The verses are reminiscent of the musical ambience of 19, her debut album, bringing to mind the likes of ‘Best For Last’ and ‘Daydreamer.’ The hook, however, is completely fresh and different, and I rather like that.
Nevertheless, Adele is still Adele, and ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’ continues to echo tales of lost loves and mistakes made. It would be cool for her to mix it up thematically as well as musically, as people will inevitably lose interest with a certain talent just because they get bored of breakups. As far as breakup songs and Adele songs tend to go, though, this is a pretty fun one, and it makes me excited for her next move.
