Review by Chris Dibsdall, writer (ranked the album #2):
I still find it odd that these formerly over-hyped horror-indie scenesters have turned, in fairly large bounds, into purveyors of some of the lushest retro synth-rock around today. Where Primary Colours recalled the best of Joy Division and Krautrock, Skying stands as a stunning love letter to the best of early 80s synth-tinged neo-psychedelia, with acts like The Cure, Simple Minds and, most strikingly for me, Echo and the Bunnymen echoing in its capacious, often grandiose arrangements. Everything from the staggeringly gorgeous ‘Still Life’ to the pop march of ‘I Can See Through You’ speaks of a band bristling with new ideas for the future, but always with an eye on the past. In short, though, this album is just tremendous fun.
